A little bump in the road

I’m sure by now most of you know that my personal Facebook account was hacked into. I guess in the end I only have myself to blame. I want to say it’s all due to pure laziness, but if you know me you know that I’m anything but lazy. However, that’s what it comes down to. Laziness. I slacked off on the extra security measures because I was tired of generating codes while jumping from device to device. I have a lot to manage and it just got to be too much. Lesson learned.

The personal account isn’t really a loss. It was nice a nice way to keep in contact with friends and family from out of state, but if keeping in touch is truly important to them they know where to find me. I also never share anything too personal because you just never know. Losing my business page is what really stings. I only had about 275 likes, but I was so proud of that accomplishment. I worked so hard on that page. I kept at it steadily all through the pandemic which was no easy task. I was consistent. All that was for nothing because now I have nothing to show for it all. I have my website which I worked even harder on, but I’m 90% sure that no one really reads this page. But right now this page is all I have.

I’ve tried securing my old account, but have had no luck. In less than 3 weeks it’ll be permanently deleted. I made a new account with a new business page and have been restricted on both of those just 2 days after logging in. It’s not a new account. It was a backup account. I always try to think ahead. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it backfires. This backfired. I tried not to do too much too fast, but I do have business to tend to. Funny how Facebook was quick to shut me down even after I submitted my ID to prove my identity, but had no problem letting the hackers do whatever they wanted. Including racking up charges in ads. No worries. Facebook did refund that at least. PayPal flat out refused even though I had an email from Facebook alerting me of suspicious ad activity. The whole situation just really sucks. And what’s worse is that there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it.

I could make yet another account. I could restart the process a 3rd time. But I’m tired of wasting my time. I shouldn’t have to jump through so many hoops. It shouldn’t be this complicated. So I’ll just keep my business here and on Instagram. So far it looks like there are no issues with this Instagram account. I haven’t been restricted or anything so that’s a plus. The problem is most of my customers are Facebook users. So this is going to be challenging.

I really wish I could say that this hasn’t affected me, but it has. My husband is my biggest cheerleader and told me that my Facebook page isn’t Midwest Treats. I am Midwest Treats. I agree with him and I love him so much more for saying that. But it still sucks to see your work slip away from you knowing that you can’t do a damn thing to stop it from happening. That and I feel like my audience has decreased since not many people read websites nowadays. People prefer their social media accounts. So I’m not really sure where that leaves me. But I’ll be here. Trying.

As for the hack and your personal information… this is why I only ever took orders and not payments through social media. Payments were only ever accepted securely through PayPal, Venmo, and Cashapp. The only information they have is your favorite treats lol. Nothing more. Personal information will never be collected from me over social media. This is exactly why. To keep us both safe!

I guess I’ll wrap this up and finish my mini vacation of sorts with my family. Thank you all once again and I’m so very sorry for the inconvenience.
